The Weatherall Dock & Dredge Crew performs some preliminary work on the Toronto Transit Commission expansion. A massive ‘open excavation’ is required for the construction crews to access the existing subway. A series of steps will create this work area safely and efficiently.

First, the excavation walls are shored and then the earth is removed within them until the bottom can no longer be reached from the surface. At this point, a lower tracked excavator removes and stockpiles the remaining material safely within the walls.

Next, on the surface, a crane is utilized to remove and load out the remaining material from the excavation. The work is all part of the construction needed for the newest extension of the TTC Subway System at Sheppard Avenue and Chesswood Drive, Toronto, Ontario.
